Exploring NHS dental services in Dudley borough

Through surveys, conversations, visits to dental practices and calling every NHS dental practice in the borough, we have developed a picture of what it is really like for people in our community to access NHS dental treatment.

Summary

People across Dudley borough told us what it was like to access NHS dental services. We identified disparities in accessibility and pinpointed areas for positive change.

Key findings

  • 55% of people who asked for support with communication in dental appointments said it was not provided.
  • Some people told us the cost of dental treatment forced them to make difficult decisions, including choosing not to get treatment or taking on debt.
  • 84% of survey respondents were able to successfully book an NHS dental appointment the last time they tried.
