Enter & View Jhoots Milking Bank Pharmacy

We conducted an Enter & View visit to Jhoots Milking Bank Pharmacy. This formed part of our wider research into access to GP services, and the use of alternative primary care, such as Pharmacy First.

Summary

Jhoots Milking Bank provides the Pharmacy First service, this encourages patients to attend their pharmacy for treatment of selected minor ailments, instead of attending their GP practice.

We conducted an Enter & View at Jhoots Milking Bank to discover the experiences of people who use their services, and discover if local people are aware of the Pharmacy First service. We also wanted to know what people thought of their GP practice, and if they were aware of recent changes to primary care services.

Key findings

  • People had a range of experiences of making an appointment with their GP practice.
  • There was a low level of awareness of Pharmacy First and the Dudley GP Practice Charter.
  • We found limited patient knowledge of extended healthcare teams and Modern General Practice.
  • We encourage all primary care services to promote changes to primary care and empower patients to form educated decisions about their care.

“Normally, I speak to the GP due to all of my medications. I had a bee sting so saw the pharmacist instead of the GP. They're very good in Jhoots.”
