We explored the experiences of Shared Lives Carers and the individuals they support through the Camphill Village Trust’s Shared Lives scheme. ​ 
 
People told us the benefits, challenges, and areas for improvement in providing personalised care for adults with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health needs.

Key findings

  • Shared Lives placements foster independence and meaningful activities for individuals, but funding inconsistencies impact access to day services. ​
  • Carers value the rewarding nature of their role but face challenges like 24/7 responsibilities and limited respite support. ​
  • Accessing health and social care services remains difficult, with long waiting times and inconsistent GP services adding pressure on carer
